A blog exploring the work of Jean Giraud, aka Gir, aka Moebius. Basically, there didn't seem to be any places online that gave a comprehensive collection of his work, so I made one.
[The official site of Moebius] - While there are very few of his works available to an English-only audience, the last thing I want to do is take away from potential sales by hosting his work here. If you speak French and can enjoy his books the way they were originally meant to be enjoyed, please click over and show him some love.

Career Timeline: 1978 - The Eyes of the Cat
Moebius collaborates with Alejandro Jodorowsky on their first comic together, one of many to come. Described as a stream of consciousness piece, reminiscent of the Panic Movement, Les Yeux du Chat(The Eyes of the Cat) was made to be a gift to staff and friends of Les Humanoïdes Associés:
“Les Humanoïdes Associés’ publication in 1978 of Les Yeaux du Chat as a hardcover, digest-size giveaway album{printed on bright yellow paper) was intended to be a one-time-only publication of the story, never to be reprinted in any format. Copies were offered as bonus gifts to subscribers, mail order customers and ‘special friends’, and the supply was depleted long before the demand for the sought-after book had been satisfied. Les Yeaux du Chat became a coveted collector’s item, as well as a revered accomplishment. Its nearly legendary status was assured by its scarcity.”
— Stephen Bissette, from his introduction of it in Taboo #4, 1990

More Moebius release news!
That long heard of English edition of The Eyes of the Cat(Les Yeux du Chat being the original French title) is finally coming out from Humanoids. And in two weeks no less! December 7 is the official release date:
56 pages
11.95 x 16 inches
Black and white
ISBN 9781594650581
USD 69.95
So it’s only 56 pages long, and those 56 pages are housed in a hardcover book at the price of $69.95. That’s pretty steep, BUT: only 750 copies are being made, so I guess you get bragging rights if you get one. Or something. Also, at least it’s coming out in time that you might convince some poor sap that loves you to buy you one for Christmas. And it’s definitely got some things going for it that make me want to pay that $69.95. I like that this edition is going to be black and white. Previous ones have always used different degrees of yellow, that only kind of worked for me. B&W will allow Moebius’ work to show through more. Also, cripes this thing is going to be big. At 11.95x16 in., that’s a whole 2 inches taller than the over-sized Incal Classic Collection.

A little bird just told me that Humanoids is prepping a hardcover release of Les Yeux Du Chat, by Jodorowsky/Moebius. Interesting that so far the only English releases of Moebius work from Humanoids has been written by Jodo.

So Les Yeux Du Chat’s narrative is a pretty simple one, but it’s got kind of an interesting structure. The book is like a series of two page spreads, where the page on the left is this, or something almost exactly like it. Every odd numbered, or lefthand, page is from this perspective. All that can be seen is the silhouette of this man and the frame of his window, and the small amount of text that tells the story is placed at the bottom left. The righthand pages are these gorgeous splash pages showing this bird(named Meduz) attack and kill a cat, steal its eyes, and bring them to this man in the tower(who has an apparent psychic link with Meduz). This simple back and forth of the page structure is surprisingly engrossing, both humanizing this sad man desperate to see and elevating the life of a bird to a kind of intimidating scale. In all it’s 53 pages in length, the size a typical French album comic book.
