A blog exploring the work of Jean Henri Gaston Giraud(1938 - 2012) , aka Gir, aka Moebius.
[The official site of Moebius] - While there aren't many of his works available to an English-only audience, the last thing I want to do is take away from potential sales by hosting his work here. If you speak French and can enjoy his books the way they were originally meant to be enjoyed, please click over and show him and his publishers some love.

An article on Moebius and TRON in Metal Hurlant No.82 (Decmeber, 1982). It’s the Spanish edition, but aside from the language there is no difference between it and the original French issue. I don’t believe this was translated to English for Heavy Metal, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Not only are Moebius’ books incredibly unavailable, even Tron is out of print on DVD. Disney has no plans to release it either, as they are apparently embarrassed by it and don’t want audiences to connect Tron: Legacy with its original. Probably something to do with the original’s accessibility factor. And while I think it’s a dumb move and love the original, I have to admit that it is not an accessible film. Like, at all. In fact, it’s absolutely nuts. It’ll most likely be released on DVD when Legacy is, but who knows how long that will take? Disney needs to milk the theater circulation for all it’s worth to make the gargantuan amount money they put into it back.

TRON
Why haven’t I posted any Tron work at this, the most appropriate time? There’s too god damn much of it for starters…
So the dilly: I’d wager that most people, like myself, were first exposed to Moebius via Tron whether they knew it or not. Moebius designed practically the entire aesthetic of the film. Not all of it, as design supergenius Syd Mead conceived of the bikes and how they worked in a practical sense(which sounds kind of hilarious when talking about Tron), but Moebius did most of the rest. Especially the costumes. The crazy light contours, the weird cone shaped fat guy, all of that.
I have literally hundreds of scans of drawings of his concept work, and I need to sift through them so as not to annihilate my follower’s dashboards. This may take some time, and I’m going to be gone for the weekend. Bear with me.
